ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University is an international institute for scholars and artists of ballet and its related arts and sciences. It exists to inspire new ideas and new ballets, expanding the way we think about ballet and bringing vitality to its history, practice, and performance in the 21st century.

Founded upon two pillars, academic and artistic, the Center is unlike traditional research institutes or artist retreats, as it combines these two models to bring scholars and artists together.

The Center, which launched in September 2014 with generous support from the Mellon Foundation and New York University, is situated on the Eastern edge of the NYU campus and is equipped with state of the art offices, conference rooms and studio space. The Center’s staff is a small, entrepreneurial team operating within the larger University setting.  This is a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated team in the running and expansion of an international research center.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Center for Ballet and the Arts (CBA) seeks a team member to play a central role in engaging the Center’s audiences and supporting Center activities. The incumbent will work with CBA senior staff to coordinate and implement programs, events and communications. This includes but is not limited to developing plans, maintaining partnerships, executing logistics and ensuring activities are on schedule, on budget and in keeping with defined objectives. The incumbent will support the administration of all programs at CBA, including public programs, internal seminars and other future programs as they develop. The incumbent will write, edit and proofread communications content across platforms (newsletters, website, social media, email invitations) while providing ongoing critical support to CBA’s Directors and the NYU Office of Public Affairs in the planning and creation of the general outreach and communications strategy. The incumbent will provide support to CBA’s fundraising and strategic planning efforts by working closely with CBA directors to create and maintain research and communication materials related to fundraising efforts. The incumbent will help manage two part-time student employees, and will work with CBA staff to maintain systems for the development and implementation of data tracking, retrieval, and reporting while collaborating to ensure project specifications and deadlines are met.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The Center for Ballet and the Arts is seeking a positive, motivated and energetic team player. The ideal candidate has the ability to be flexible and work effectively within a creative and changing environment.  Specific qualifications include:

  • 3 years of experience facilitating events and outreach, writing/editing communications such as newsletters and web content, and implementing multi-channel content strategies across platforms.
  • Ability to interact with high-profile individuals; strong judgment and diplomatic skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfort working with social media, digital content and web design.
  • Ability to juggle and effectively organize and prioritize a variety of projects with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Attention to detail, particularly with numbers and written correspondence.
