In this work-in-progress, dancer/choreographer Meredith Dincolo (CBA ’26) and historian Tara Zahra (CBA ’26) explore methods for writing biographies through dance.
What stories can we tell with movement that cannot be captured on paper? What “sources” and archives might a choreographer mine for evidence and inspiration? What histories do our bodies contain, or can our bodies express best through movement?
While dates and events may remain obscure in embodied histories, other aspects of human lives come to the forefront. Corporeal knowledge, habits, and experiences; relationships, emotions, and memories triggered by movement, touch, and sound all shape the narrative.
