About J. David Velleman

J. David Velleman (CBA ’15) teaches and writes about ethics, the philosophy of action, and moral psychology. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University and taught for 20 years at the University of Michigan before moving to NYU. He has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In Ann Arbor, he studied with Camilla Chiapuris at the Community School of Ballet; in New York, at Peridance and the Joffrey School.

Ballet Class as a Life-Practice

At The Center, Velleman worked on the development of workshops to engage dancers in discussions of ballet class as a practice that informs life beyond the stage.
