About Jeannette
Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew is an award-winning designer specializing in lighting and projection for theater, dance, opera, and immersive experiences, whose work, praised by the New York Times as “clever” and “inventive,” has been showcased internationally in cities including Havana, Prague, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Paris. She is also a generative artist devising interdisciplinary productions that integrate puppetry and technology, creating immersive performances that offer alternative modes of spectatorship. Yew is an Arts Professor at NYU Tisch Drama, a 2026 United States Artists Fellow, and a recipient of the 2022 Obie Award for Sustained Achievement in Lighting Design, with additional support from the NEA/TCG career development program, the Jim Henson Foundation, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, among others.
CBA Project
Luminous Awakening is a dance and lighting performance that investigates the tension between illumination and obscurity—both literal and metaphorical. It invites audiences to traverse a shifting maze of light, projection, and movement, symbolizing the inner journey toward clarity, truth, and transformation. This project is inherently multidisciplinary, integrating choreography, lighting, projection, mythology, and socio-political commentary into a unified artistic experience.
