Join Professor Catherine M. Cole, Ms. Mamela Nyamza, and Dr. Mlondi Zondi for a discussion of Cole’s 2020 book, Performance and the Afterlives of Injustice: Dance and Live Art in Contemporary South Africa and Beyond (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 2020). This monograph “brings the most social of art forms – live performance – together with questions about how societies change in the wake of state-perpetrated atrocities.” From Ms. Nyamza’s aesthetic strategies to the performance of social transformation and stasis in contemporary South Africa, the panel speakers will talk about some of the most critical debates on dance in post-conflict societies.

This is a virtual event. A Zoom link will be provided upon registration.

The Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU is committed to making our events accessible to the widest possible audience. CART (live captioning) will be available. If further accommodations are required, please email courtney.sams@nyu.edu by March 24.
