About David Harvey
New York, NY
David Harvey is an independent dance artist from Seattle, Washington. He danced with Alonzo King LINES Ballet for 7 years, and now works as a freelance performer, choreographer and educator. He has originated roles in new works by Bobbi Jene Smith, Sarah Foster-Sproull, and Tom Weinberger, and has created, performed and toured with Kate Wallich’s The YC since 2016. Since 2018 Harvey has been working with David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen of Out InnerSpace Dance Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia. He regularly returns to Alonzo King LINES Ballet to teach and create new work for its education programs. His solo work, Brake Tender premiered at On The Boards NW New Works Festival in 2016.
Harvey’s CBA project continued his work on a new dance entitled Plunge Line, research into the many identities of one body, and how they emerge through physicalized experience, mental and emotional behavior, and embodiment. Building on themes of chaos, queer experience, vulnerability and self-imposed limitations, this work focused on the inherent tension of identity, which simultaneously offers both liberation and confinement. Harvey also explored how this choreography can be integrated into visual media forms.
Alonzo King LINES Ballet nominated David Harvey to serve as an Artistic Partnership Initiative Fellow in Summer 2021.
The Artistic Partnership Initiative is a collaboration between CBA and professional dance companies around the world to advance the art of choreography. API Fellows are selected by companies’ artistic directors for their notable choreographic abilities and are awarded a 3-4 week residency to develop new work with the full resources of CBA and NYU.
