About John Selya

John Selya (CBA ’16), a native New Yorker, was trained at the School of American Ballet. As a student, Selya performed in productions at New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, and American Ballet Theatre. In his final year there, he was awarded the Mae L. Wien award for outstanding promise. Selya then joined American Ballet Theatre, where he performed and choreographed from 1988 to 1999.  He went on to join Twyla Tharp Dance, and onto Broadway where he earned numerous awards, most notably a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Tharp’s Movin’ Out. Selya continues to collaborate with Tharp to this day.

Après Moi

Selya created movement and choreography used in the play, Après Moi which tells the story of a gifted young dancer and her struggle to ascend in a renowned classical ballet company.
