Julia Randel is Associate Professor and Music Department Chair at Hope College where she teaches courses in music history and world music. Dr. Randel’s current research focus is a book project on Igor Stravinsky’s work with the choreographer George Balanchine. Dr. Randel earned her Ph.D. at Harvard (Historical Musicology, 2004), with a dissertation titled “Dancing With Stravinsky: Balanchine, Agon, Movements for Piano and Orchestra, and the Language of Classical Ballet.” She also holds an MA in Musicology from the University of Georgia (1997); MM in Tuba Performance from the University of Kentucky (1996); and a BA in Literature from Yale (Magna cum laude, 1993). Before joining the faculty at Hope in 2005, she taught at Harvard and the University of Georgia.
